Map of Water Flow in the Everglades

This map shows the change in water flow from Lake Okeechobee to Florida's South Bay and how those flow patterns have changed over time. On the far left we can see a more open water flow that naturally curves to the west. Currently there is limited flow to the southern areas of Florida due to extensive land and agricultural development which has caused destruction to the ecosystem. With the Comprehensive Florida Restoration Plan, the government hopes to reform natural water flow patterns.

Bird Population Changes

As you can see, over time with the current human impacts on the ecosystem, the bird population has been decreasing substantially since it's height in the 1950's

Spatial Map of Everglades

This spatial map of the Everglades shows its ecological distribution in Florida. Though there is an Everglades National Park in the Southern tip of the state, the ecosystem itself spreads throughout mid-southern areas of Florida.

Everglades National Park

A protected area of the Everglades is the Everglades National Park, where the water flow from Lake Okeechobee eventually ends up. It is also a refuge for a diverse array of endangered plant and wildlife species as it is the last of what remains of one of America's largest wetland ecosystems.
